Freshman Admissions Process

Freshman applying for fall or spring admission to Carson-Newman College must, in addition to being accepted to the college, complete the process for enrollment.  This process includes applying for financial aid, housing services, and attending orientation sessions.  The process is included below:

Step 1 - Apply for Admission

Students must apply for admission to Carson-Newman College by the dates required by the anticipated term of enrollment.  In addition to the application, students must submit an official high school transcript with G.P.A., and an official ACT and/or SAT score.  Students can apply directly on-line by selecting the following link: APPLY NOW!

Step 2 - Admissions Review

Once all needed forms are received, the student's application is reviewed by the Admissions Standards Committee.  The requirements used by the Admissions Standards Committee are listed under the Freshman Admissions Requirements.  The Office of Admissions will notify the student of the Admission Decision in approximately 2-4 weeks.  Students can check on their application status by selecting the following link: Check Application Status

Step 3 - Acceptance

Congratulations!  Once the student has been accepted to Carson-Newman, an Acceptance Packet will be sent via mail.  Students must fill out the official forms and return those forms back to the Office of Admissions.  The packet contains the following forms:

A) Acceptance Letter - The Acceptance Letter will include the information and provisions concerning the Admission Decision.  The student does not need to send this letter back to the Office of Admissions.

B) Biographical Form - The Biographical Form contains more specific details about the admitted student.

C) Immunization Form - Per the State of Tennessee, Carson-Newman must receive a record of all immunizations from the admitted student.

D) Residence Hall Application - Students must apply for housing using the Residence Hall Application.  The application includes a roommate request section and a residence hall preference section.

E) Enrollment Deposit Form - The Enrollment Deposit Form must be submitted to the Office of Admissions before a student can sign-up for C-N Orientation Sessions or be assigned a Residence Hall.

Step 4 - Apply for Financial Assistance

Students can apply for financial assistance from Carson-Newman College.  In addition to scholarships awarded by the college, federal and state assistance programs including grants, low interest loans, and the HOPE Scholarship are available by filing the FAFSA.  For more information concerning financial assistance, check out the C-N Office of Financial Assistance Website.

Step 5 - Enrollment Deposit

Students must submit the Enrollment Deposit Form in addition to the Enrollment Deposit Fee (for most students, the fee is $100).  Once the student has deposited, he/she may sign up for summer orientation sessions and officially register for classes.  In addition to class preference, all Residence Hall Assignments are made based on the student's deposit date.  The earlier the date, the better choice a student will have with classes and residence halls.

Step 6 - C-N Orientation

After the student has submitted the Enrollment Deposit, he/she may sign-up for one of our summer orientation sessions and/or Early Registration.  At these events, the student may register for classes and finalize housing plans.  Once a student has attended C-N Orientation, he/she will be ready to officially enroll.  Students can sign-up for an orientation session by selecting the following link: Sign-Up for Orientation!
