JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head athletic trainer Mike Van Bruggen has announced the addition of Gretchen Altevogt, T.J. Horton and Gary Noble to the Athletic Training staff.
Altevogt comes to C-N from the University of Tulsa where she has served as a graduate assistant since 2003. While at Tulsa, she worked with the volleyball and men and women’s track team as well as assisting with the department’s 16 intercollegiate sports. She received her Master of Arts in Education from Tulsa in May of 2005. Altevogt will serve as an instructor in Health, Physical Education and Sports Science (HPSS) at Carson-Newman and will work with the football and softball teams.
Altevogt was an undergraduate athletic trainer at Wichita State University where she received her B.A. degree in Exercise Science with an Athletic Training option in 2003. While in Wichita, Altevogt was an intern with the Wichita Stealth Arena Football II team, served as an intern at Wichita Southeast High School and worked several camps throughout the summer at WSU.
Horton has served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Creighton University where he has worked with the softball, women’s soccer, men’s soccer and men and women’s tennis teams for the past two seasons. He was the host athletic trainer for the 2004 College World Series as well as the WAC Basketball Tournament in 2001 and 2002, the National Invitational Tournament in 2001 and the NJCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in 1999 and 2000.
Horton worked with the men’s soccer, softball, men’s tennis, men’s basketball and football teams as an undergraduate at the University of Tulsa and provided athletic training coverage for the teams at Hutchinson Community College for two seasons. Horton holds M.A in Recreational Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, a B.S. in Athletic Training from the University of Tulsa and an A.A. from Hutchinson Community College. He will serve as an instructor of HPSS and will work with the soccer and baseball teams at C-N.
Noble will serve as the new Director of Athletic Training Education at C-N. He has served as a Doctoral Assistant in the Athletic Training Education Program at Ball State University since 2002. While at Ball State, Noble developed the Approved Clinical Instructor On-line training course, provided assistance to the Program Director, taught undergraduate and graduate classes and provided athletic training coverage as needed.
Noble was a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Northern State University in South Dakota. He served as the primary athletic trainer for the wrestling and baseball team as well as assisting with the football team. Noble worked with the baseball and rodeo teams at Eastern Oregon University as an undergraduate student.
Noble is completing his doctorate at Ball State and holds a M.S. in Physical Education from Northern State and a B.S. in Physical Education/Athletic Training from Eastern Oregon University.
